The US army fired a Hellfire missile at a tanker heading in direction of Iran on Tuesday (Jun 2) as a part of a blockade being imposed by President Donald Trump, who’s urgent Tehran to barter a peace settlement on his phrases.
The US army’s Central Command posted a video displaying the missile strike the tanker and stated it focused the Botswana-flagged M/T Lexie’s engine room, disabling it.
“The ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings, failing to adjust to instructions from US forces a number of instances over a 24-hour interval,” Central Command stated in an announcement.
“A US plane finally disabled the vessel by firing a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, stopping the tanker from reaching Iran.”
The Lexie is the sixth ship that the US army has disabled because it began its blockade of Iran on Apr 13. The US army says it has additionally redirected 122 vessels that had been looking for to enter or exit Iranian ports to date.
