    Singapore urges Israel to halt planned West Bank settlements

    SINGAPORE: Singapore has urged the Israeli authorities to halt settlement growth plans within the West Financial institution, reiterating that such settlements are unlawful underneath worldwide regulation.

    In an announcement on Monday (Aug 24), a spokesperson for Singapore’s Ministry of International Affairs (MFA) mentioned that the proposed building within the E1 space would “additional fragment the West Financial institution and severely undermine the prospects for a viable two-state resolution”.

    Israeli authorities final week opened bidding for greater than 1,200 properties within the space, sparking condemnation from France, Italy, Britain and Germany. Inexperienced-lit by Israel final 12 months, the E1 plan would additional separate east Jerusalem, occupied and annexed by Israel and predominantly inhabited by Palestinians, from the West Financial institution.

    The plan for the roughly 12 sq km parcel of land often called E1 seeks to finally construct round 3,400 properties on the ultra-sensitive tract of land, which lies between Jerusalem and the Israeli settlement of Maale Adumim.

    “Singapore urges the Israeli authorities to halt these settlement growth plans,” the MFA spokesperson mentioned.
