USAID’s announcement comes because the Trump administration is contemplating abolishing the company and subsuming its features into the US Division of State.

Requested by a reporter on Tuesday if he was making ready to “wind down” the company, Trump mentioned, “I feel so.”

On Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that he was serving as acting administrator of USAID.

USAID, which disbursed greater than half of Washington’s $72bn overseas assist funds in 2023, has turn out to be a primary goal of the cost-cutting drive spearheaded by tech billionaire Elon Musk and his so-called Division of Authorities Effectivity.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has referred to as USAID a “criminal organisation“, with out substantiation, and claimed the company is a “viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America”.
