BUENOS AIRES: Argentina will pull out of the World Well being Group (WHO), a presidential spokesperson mentioned on Wednesday (Feb 5), following President Donald Trump’s government order final month to tug the USA out of the worldwide well being group.

Trump, who Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei considers an in depth ally, moved to exit the organisation on his first day in workplace on Jan 20.

Milei ordered Argentina’s withdrawal due to “deep variations” concerning the WHO’s administration of well being points, notably the COVID-19 pandemic, presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni mentioned, citing Argentina’s months-long lockdown below the earlier leftist authorities.

Adorni additionally cited “a scarcity of independence from the political affect of different states”.

Trump equally claimed the worldwide well being company had mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic and different worldwide well being crises, and that it required “unfairly onerous” funds from the USA, its greatest funder.
