    Manchester Arena Bomber’s Brother Is Accused of Attack on Prison Guards

    The brother of the terrorist who bombed an Ariana Grande live performance in Manchester, England, in 2017 was accused on Saturday of launching a violent assault inside a high-security jail the place he was serving time for his personal position within the live performance bombing.

    The Jail Officers’ Affiliation, a physique representing jail workers throughout Britain, stated the person, Hashem Abedi, 28, attacked three guards at Frankland Jail, a jail in County Durham in northeast England. The officers obtained “burns, scalds and stab wounds” through the assault, the affiliation stated.

    In 2020, Mr. Abedi was handed a life sentence with a minimal time period of 55 years for his half within the 2017 assault in Manchester. The Islamic State terrorist group claimed duty for the bombing, which was the deadliest terror assault in Britain since a sequence of bombings that struck public transport throughout London in 2005.

    Mr. Abedi was convicted of murdering the 22 victims who died within the blast after prosecutors stated he was “simply as accountable” as his brother, Salman Abedi, who died within the assault. British regulation didn’t allow a choose to provide Mr. Abedi a life sentence with out parole, as a result of he was below the age of 21 on the time of the assault.

    In a press release about Saturday’s assault, the jail service stated: “Police are actually investigating, so it could be inappropriate to remark additional. Violence in jail is not going to be tolerated, and we’ll all the time push for the strongest punishment for assaults on our hardworking workers.”

    The assault is being investigated by the Durham Constabulary, which stated its inquiries have been ongoing.
