    “FELT THE BED MOVING”

Sofia Ramonet instructed AFP was asleep when she “felt the mattress shifting quite a bit” in her third-floor condominium in Ushuaia.

“I seemed up on the ceiling the place I’ve a dangling lamp, and it was shifting from one facet to the opposite. It lasted a substantial period of time, a couple of minutes.”

When she seemed out the window, she noticed “lots of people outdoors their houses” who have been “scared as a result of they did not know what was occurring or what to do.”

There was no evacuation order for Ushuaia.

However residents of Puerto Almanza, a village 75 kilometres to the east on the Beagle Channel, which separates the primary island within the Tierra del Fuego archipelago from smaller islands and which might act as a funnel for a wave surge, have been ordered to maneuver to greater floor.

All nautical actions within the Beagle Channel have been suspended, Tierra del Fuego’s secretary for civil safety instructed AFP.

The quake was felt 160 miles because the crow flies north of Ushuaia within the Chilean city of Porvenir on the Strait of Magellan.

“I did not give it a lot thought till the alarms sounded. It triggered a little bit of chaos as a result of it is not regular to really feel tremors right here,” Shirley Gallego, a 41-year-old fishing plant operator, instructed AFP.
