    For a lot of centuries, new popes tended to decide on the title of the pope who had elevated them to cardinal. John was the most well-liked, chosen by 23 popes, adopted by Benedict and Gregory, every with 16.

    It was from the mid-Twentieth century that new popes started to decide on names signalling the goal of their papacy, Regoli stated.

    Pope Leo XIV spent many years among the many poor in Peru.

    On Thursday, Peruvian bishop Edinson Farfan referred to as the brand new pope “a brother who has handed by means of these lands”.

    “From the start when he completed his research he got here to Peru, to the mission within the north of Peru in Chulucanas, with a transparent choice for the poor. And from the second he arrived in Peru he fell in love with Peru,” Farfan advised a press convention.

    “He has given his complete life to the mission in Peru,” he stated, including that Leo XIV was “delicate to the difficulty of poverty”.
