The Washington Capitals are in injury management mode after by chance claiming that subsequent season can be Alex Ovechkin’s final.

The Capitals confirmed Thursday that the workforce’s gross sales division despatched an electronic mail to season-ticket holders that erroneously claimed that subsequent season can be Ovechkin’s closing 12 months within the NHL. That pressured the workforce to challenge a public assertion saying that Ovechkin has not made any choices on his future past subsequent 12 months.

“No choice has been made on Alex Ovechkin’s future following the 2025-26 NHL season,” the workforce stated in a press release. “An electronic mail was despatched from a person with the company gross sales division that mistakenly alluded to subsequent 12 months being Alex Ovechkin’s closing 12 months.”
