    Japan PM says won’t ‘easily compromise’ to Trump on tariffs

    TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba mentioned on Sunday (Jul 6) that he will not “simply compromise” in talks with Washington as Tokyo seeks to avert United States President Donald Trump’s menace to impose tariffs of as much as 35 per cent on Japanese items.

    “We won’t simply compromise. That is why it’s taking time and why it’s robust,” Ishiba instructed a tv speak present.

    His feedback got here as Japan rushes to barter with the Trump administration earlier than the Wednesday deadline for commerce offers.

    Whereas Trump imposed a sweeping 10 per cent tariff on imports from most buying and selling companions in April, he unveiled – then paused – larger charges on dozens of economies, together with Japan, to permit room for negotiations.

    This pause will expire Jul 9, which means the elevated charges are resulting from kick in if international locations fail to succeed in agreements with Washington to avert them.
