    BERLIN: Germany summoned the Chinese language ambassador to the international ministry on Tuesday (Jul 8) after saying China’s army had focused a German plane with a laser. The plane was participating in a European Union operation referred to as ASPIDES, which goals to guard maritime safety.

    “Placing German personnel in danger and disrupting the operation is totally unacceptable,” mentioned Germany’s international ministry on social media platform X.

    No additional data was instantly obtainable.

    The incident comes as fears mount within the EU about Chinese language affect on important applied sciences and safety infrastructure in Europe.

    There was no speedy response from the European Fee or China’s international ministry, and the Chinese language embassy in Berlin didn’t instantly reply to an emailed request for remark.

    The EU’s ASPIDES mission contributes to the safety of freedom of navigation and maritime safety, particularly for service provider and industrial vessels within the Crimson Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf beneath the EU’s widespread safety and defence coverage.
