    ROME: Italy’s Bergamo airport, which gives low-cost airline connections to and from close by Milan, was quickly closed on Tuesday (Jul 8) after a person died on a runway throughout take-off preparations for a flight.

    Flight operations have been suspended from 10.20am until noon native time (4.20-6pm GMT) “as a consequence of an issue that occurred on the taxiway,” the airport mentioned in an announcement, including that authorities have been investigating.

    A spokesperson confirmed {that a} man had died, including that he was neither a passenger nor a member of airport workers.

    In accordance with the ANSA information company, the person was sucked into the engine of a departing aircraft. He ran towards the shifting plane, chased by airport police who have been unable to cease him, it added.

    The Bergamo police had no rapid remark.

    Spanish low-cost provider Volotea mentioned in an announcement that following an incident with an engine of its 10.35am flight to Asturias, “one one that was not on board … and has no reference to the corporate suffered severe accidents.”

    The 154 passengers on the aircraft have been rescheduled on a day flight and provided psychological assist, as have been crew members who might have been traumatised by the occasions, Volotea added.
