The State Division started shedding greater than 1,300 workers on Friday as a part of a sweeping reorganization geared toward decreasing waste and eliminating redundancy.
The layoffs, which started on Friday, resulted within the elimination of 1,107 civil service employee positions and 246 overseas service officer positions, in response to inner notices obtained by a number of retailers.

In all, 1,353 positions have been eradicated on this preliminary wave, with officers signaling that that is solely the start of a bigger effort to chop as many as 3,000 jobs.
In keeping with a report from the New York Post, “Staff started receiving termination notices within the morning informing them that their positions have been being ‘abolished.’”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the layoffs will make the division “extra environment friendly and extra targeted.”
“It’s not a consequence of attempting to eliminate folks. However in case you shut the bureau, you don’t want these positions,” Rubio stated whereas talking to the press on Thursday. “Perceive that a few of these are positions which can be being eradicated, not folks.”
