    WASHINGTON: The leaders of Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire days after main Israeli strikes, a US envoy stated Friday (Jul 18), as he urged all sides in war-torn Syria to lay down arms.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syria’s new chief Ahmed al-Sharaa “have agreed to a ceasefire” additionally backed by neighbours Türkiye and Jordan, stated Tom Barrack, the US ambassador to Türkiye who can be level man on Syria.

    “We name upon Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to place down their weapons and along with different minorities construct a brand new and united Syrian id in peace and prosperity with its neighbours,” he wrote on X.

    Israel on Wednesday carried out major air strikes inside the Syrian capital Damascus together with on the military headquarters.

    Israel stated it was defending the Druze community after lethal clashes between the minority, which has a presence in Israel, and Bedouins within the southern Syrian space of Sweida.

    Some diplomats and analysts see Israel as maximising the injury it could actually to weaken its historic adversary Syria, after Sharaa’s Islamist forces toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad, an Iranian ally, in December.

    The USA on Wednesday introduced a deal through which Syrian authorities forces retreated from Sweida.

    The State Division later stated that america didn’t assist the air strikes by Israel, its ally which depends on US diplomatic and navy assist.
