    A heated post-match trade between former World No. 5 Jelena Ostapenko and Taylor Townsend marred an in any other case action-filled fourth day of the U.S. Open on Wednesday. 

    After Townsend defeated the 2017 French Open champion in straight units, 7-5, 6-1, Ostapenko accused her opponent of unsportsmanlike conduct, declaring that the American did not apologize when a net cord helped her win an important level earlier within the match. 

    The Latvian wrote on social media that Townsend “was very disrespectful” and did not present the right etiquette anticipated of a professional tennis participant. 

    “If she performs in her homeland, it doesn’t imply that she will be able to behave and do no matter she desires,” she wrote in a scathing deal with of Townsend.

    Townsend supplied extra particulars on their post-match confrontation, which led to some suggesting she was racially focused. 

    “She advised me I’ve no class and no schooling, and to see what occurs if we play one another exterior the U.S.,” Townsend revealed. 

    Townsend refused to name Ostapenko a racist. 

    “I did not take it in that manner,” she stated, via BBC. “But in addition that has been a stigma in our neighborhood of being not educated, and the entire issues, when it is the furthest factor from the reality. Whether or not it had racial undertones or not, that is one thing she will be able to converse on.”
