The 50 % levies on most Brazilian exports are linked to what Trump has described as a “witch hunt” in opposition to his ally and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who’s on trial for allegedly plotting a coup.

US tariffs on Indian items had been doubled final month to as excessive as 50 % in response to India’s continued imports of Russian oil.

“Sure nations have launched commerce wars and tariff wars, severely impacting the world economic system and severely undermining worldwide commerce guidelines,” Chinese language chief Xi Jinping stated throughout the assembly, in keeping with China’s state-run information company Xinhua.

The digital assembly, which lasted 1-1/2 hours, introduced collectively leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia, Brazil’s authorities stated in a separate assertion.

The group mentioned the dangers posed by the resurgence of unilateral measures, notably in worldwide commerce, and explored methods to strengthen mechanisms for solidarity, coordination, and commerce amongst BRICS nations, the assertion stated.
