DOHA: Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani urged the worldwide group on Sunday (Sep 14) to “cease utilizing double requirements” and punish Israel for what he described as its “crimes”.

He was talking at a preparatory assembly on the eve of an emergency summit of Arab and Islamic leaders organised by Qatar after Israel carried out an unprecedented air strike on Hamas leaders in Doha.

“The time has come for the worldwide group to cease utilizing double requirements and to punish Israel for all of the crimes it has dedicated, and Israel must know that the continuing warfare of extermination that our brotherly Palestinian individuals is being subjected to, and whose goal is to expel them from their land, won’t work,” the prime minister mentioned.

In line with Qatar’s overseas ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari, Monday’s assembly of Arab and Islamic leaders will take into account “a draft decision on the Israeli assault on the State of Qatar”.

Among the many leaders attending can be Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas arrived in Doha on Sunday, on the eve of the summit.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was additionally anticipated to attend, Turkish media reported.

It remained to be seen whether or not Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, would attend, although he visited Qatar earlier this week in a present of neighbourly solidarity.

Qatar, which hosts the biggest US navy base within the area, performs a key mediation function within the Israel-Hamas warfare, alongside the US and Egypt.

Hamas politburo member Bassem Naim mentioned the militant motion, whose October 2023 assault on Israel sparked the Gaza warfare, hoped the summit would produce “a decisive and unified Arab-Islamic place” and “clear and particular measures” on Israel and the warfare.
