    GENEVA: The Worldwide Committee of the Pink Cross (ICRC) stated on Sunday (Sep 21) it’ll co-host a worldwide high-level assembly subsequent yr to “uphold humanity in battle”, at a time of rampant abuses of worldwide legislation in conflicts.

    In a joint assertion alongside Brazil, China, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan and South Africa, the ICRC urged “states and the worldwide group to behave” to rein in widespread violations of worldwide humanitarian legislation.

    “The world can not stand idly as the essential tenets of worldwide humanitarian legislation are routinely and intentionally being violated,” the assertion stated.

    The ICRC launched an initiative a yr in the past with the six nations aimed toward galvanising political help for worldwide humanitarian legislation, or IHL.

    “We have been pushed by a deep sense of accountability and urgency to behave decisively to stem the tide of violations of worldwide humanitarian legislation the world is witnessing,” the International IHL Initiative stated in Sunday’s assertion.

    The initiative members stated they deliberate to “co-host a worldwide high-level assembly to uphold humanity in battle in 2026”.

    The assertion made no point out of particular conflicts of concern, saying it “speaks to all conflicts around the globe, addresses all related stakeholders, and seeks to make sure a fair and common software of IHL”.
