    SINGAPORE: Australian Minister for Communications Anika Wells stated on Thursday (Sep 25) that she has requested to talk with Singtel in Australia subsequent week over its subsidiary Optus’ network outage.

    The outage has been linked with several deaths, with some clients unable to achieve emergency providers when wanted.

    Singtel Group CEO Yuen Kuan Moon apologised on Wednesday and stated the corporate is working with Optus to make sure a “thorough investigation”.

    Chatting with ABC Information Breakfast on Thursday, Ms Wells stated the difficulty “stays a continuing look ahead to me”.

    “And while we now have to let the investigation play out and we now have to be thought of in a authorities response to the outcomes of these investigation, assembly with Singtel, I believe, is a crucial step for us, and likewise for us to provide Australian taxpayers confidence in our Triple Zero system, notably forward of the summer season catastrophe season,” she added.

    When requested if she could be talking with the Singapore authorities about it, she stated she had not requested to try this and wished to “begin with me assembly with Singtel in Australia subsequent week”.

    The newest incident comes lower than a 12 months after Optus was fined A$12 million (US$7.9 million) by regulators for failing to offer emergency name providers to 1000’s throughout a nationwide outage in 2023.

    Ms Wells stated that “it’s extremely disappointing that we’re right here so quickly after Optus’ final failure on this area”.

    She added that “from what we all know to date, there was ineffective implementation” of suggestions made to Optus after the earlier disruption.
