    SHIFT TO THE LEFT

    A protracted-time member of parliament and outspoken pro-Palestinian voice, Connolly campaigned on political independence and social justice, energising younger voters and uniting Eire’s fragmented left.

    Her victory marks a pointy flip for Eire’s largely ceremonial presidency, historically dominated by institution figures.

    Political observers stated the consequence boosts the morale of the left-wing opposition, led by Sinn Fein, although divisions might re-emerge earlier than the following parliamentary election due by 2030.
