Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell goes to get another shot. On Sunday, the Seminoles introduced that they may retain Norvell for the 2026 season.

This, despite the fact that FSU is coming off a 21-11 loss to NC State, and so they’re 5-6 on the season.

Norvell is now 7-16 and 3-13 in ACC play over the previous two years, and the Seminoles haven’t gained a single sport on the highway. It has been a tricky stretch, to say the least, however the management at Florida State nonetheless believes in Norvell. Granted, they do consider modifications must be made.

Andrea Adelson of ESPN is reporting that these modifications embrace pouring extra sources into recruiting and roster improvement.

“The driving motivation behind that is to make sure that we’re doing all the things correctly to acquire and retain elite gamers, add crucial items, and maintain long-term success,” Norvell mentioned in an announcement. “I like Florida State, and I’m absolutely dedicated to this program, and our shared targets.”

That sounds good in principle, however frankly, nothing goes to alter at Florida State so long as Norvell is the top coach.

If we had been speaking a couple of mid-tier program deciding to spend money on the soccer program, that may be one factor. That is Florida State we’re speaking about, although. The Seminoles have one of many largest manufacturers in sports activities, not to mention in school soccer, and it isn’t like recruiting has been a problem for Norvell previously.

His 2026 recruiting class is ranked No. 16 in the country. His 2026 class was ranked No. 18. His 2024 class was ranked No. 11.

Mike Norvell is the issue at Florida State

Norvell has introduced expertise into Tallahassee. That hasn’t been the issue. The issue has been that exterior of the 2023 season, which noticed FSU go 13-0 and win the ACC, Norvell has largely been underwhelming as a head coach.

He fired offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and receivers coach Ron Dugan in 2024. He introduced in Gus Malzahn on offense and Tony White to run the protection.

Clearly, Atkins and Fuller weren’t the one issues, as a result of it isn’t like issues have gotten any higher for FSU this season. In the end, there was one constant in Tallahassee since 2020, and that has been Norvell.

It is not a personnel drawback. It is a teaching drawback. With that in thoughts, why ought to FSU count on something to alter in 2026? Norvell is 38-33 with solely two profitable seasons as head coach at FSU.
