    The Walt Disney Firm has agreed to pay a $10 million civil penalty as a part of a settlement to resolve allegations it violated child privacy laws, the Justice Division mentioned on Tuesday.

    A federal court docket order within the case involving Disney Worldwide Companies Inc and Disney Leisure Operations LLC additionally bars Disney from working on YouTube in a way that violates the Kids’s On-line Privateness Safety Act, the division mentioned.

    The order requires Disney to create a program that may guarantee it correctly complies with the privateness legislation on YouTube sooner or later, it added.

    The legislation requires web sites, apps, and different on-line companies geared toward youngsters underneath 13 to inform mother and father about what private data they gather, and acquire verifiable parental consent earlier than amassing such data

    “The Justice Division is firmly devoted to making sure mother and father have a say in how their youngsters’s data is collected and used,” Assistant Legal professional Common Brett Shumate of the Justice Division’s Civil Division mentioned in a press release.

    Disney couldn’t instantly be reached for a remark.

    The order finalizes a settlement reached in September in a case referred to the DOJ by the Federal Commerce Fee.
