    A 33-year-old lady faces drug smuggling fees in New Zealand after greater than 18kg of methamphetamine was present in her baggage at Auckland Airport.

    The New Zealand nationwide was arrested on Sunday (Jan 4) after she arrived on a flight from Singapore.

    Throughout a search of her baggage, Customs officers discovered 18 vacuum-sealed packages containing a white crystalline substance. 

    “Testing confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine,” mentioned the New Zealand Customs Service. 

    It added that the meth seized is estimated to supply as much as 922,500 doses, with a possible road worth of NZ$5.53 million (US$3.2 million).

    New Zealand media reported that the lady landed in Auckland on a Singapore Airways flight. 

    Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) mentioned the flight transited in Singapore. 

    “The flight didn’t originate from Singapore,” an company spokesperson mentioned in response to CNA’s queries.

    “Because the matter is being investigated by the New Zealand authorities, it’s inappropriate for CNB to remark additional.”

    Methamphetamine is a Class A managed drug. In New Zealand, these convicted of smuggling such narcotics could also be sentenced to life imprisonment.
