    “MISUNDERSTANDINGS”

For Nuuk and Copenhagen, Wednesday’s assembly on the White Home is aimed toward ironing out “misunderstandings”.

These relate to Greenland’s defence, the Chinese language and army presence within the Arctic, and the connection between Greenland and Copenhagen, which along with the Faroe Islands make up the Kingdom of Denmark.

“To the uninformed American listener, the continued talks between Denmark and Greenland might need been construed as if Greenland’s secession from Denmark was imminent,” mentioned Greenland specialist Mikaela Engell.

For these listeners, “I can perceive that, on this state of affairs, it might be higher for the People to clutch that strategic place”, the previous Danish consultant on the island advised AFP.

However this “dialogue has been happening for years and years and it has by no means meant that Greenland was on its manner out the door”, she careworn.
