    LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles Olympics chief Casey Wasserman apologised on Saturday (Jan 31) after decades-old flirty emails between him and Jeffrey Epstein’s jailed former girlfriend appeared in a fresh cache of files associated to the investigation into the late convicted intercourse offender.

    Wasserman, the chairman of the organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, mentioned his 2003 e-mail exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell – who’s serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking underage ladies for Epstein – came about earlier than her crimes had been identified.

    “I deeply remorse my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which came about over twenty years in the past, lengthy earlier than her horrific crimes got here to mild,” Wasserman, 51, mentioned in a press release obtained by AFP.

    Wasserman’s emails to Maxwell had been amongst millions of new pages launched from the Epstein information by the US Justice Division on Friday, including contemporary gasoline to the politically explosive case that has dogged President Donald Trump.

    In his assertion on Saturday, Wasserman emphasised that he had “by no means had a private or enterprise relationship with Jeffrey Epstein”.

    “As is nicely documented, I went on a humanitarian journey as a part of a delegation with the Clinton Basis in 2002 on the Epstein airplane,” Wasserman mentioned.

    “I’m terribly sorry for having any affiliation with both of them.”

    Maxwell was sentenced to twenty years in jail in 2022 after being convicted the earlier yr of serving to Epstein recruit, groom, and abuse underage victims. 

    Federal prosecutors mentioned Maxwell had helped procure ladies – some as younger as 14 – for Epstein between 1994 and round 2004.

    Epstein took his personal life in 2019 whereas in jail awaiting trial on sex-trafficking prices. Maxwell was arrested and charged for her crimes in 2020.
