    ANKARA: North Atlantic Treaty Group (NATO) air defences within the japanese Mediterranean have shot down a 3rd ballistic missile that was fired from Iran in the direction of Türkiye, the Turkish Defence Ministry mentioned on Friday (Mar 13), including that it was asking Tehran for clarification.

    NATO air defences shot down the first Iranian ballistic missile fired at Türkiye on Mar 4, adopted by the shooting down of a second Iranian missile on Mar 9. The ministry has mentioned the primary incoming missile was downed en path to Turkish airspace, whereas the second entered it.

    The missiles more and more pose a check for NATO member Ankara and the alliance. Türkiye, NATO’s second-largest military and Iran’s neighbour, has warned Tehran towards any extra assaults. It additionally protested to Tehran after each incident, however has not steered it needs to formally name on alliance members for cover.

    “All essential measures are being taken decisively and with out hesitation towards any risk directed at our nation’s territory and airspace. Consultations are being performed with the related nation to make clear all elements of the incident,” the ministry mentioned in a press release.

    Following the incidents, NATO has beefed up its ballistic missile defences within the area and deployed a US Patriot air defence system to the southeastern Turkish province of Malatya to extend defence on the Kurecik radar base there utilized by the alliance.
