Three groups — the Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates — have handed out long-term extensions to their prime prospects. Pittsburgh shortstop Konnor Griffin landed the most important deal: nine years, $140M. That tops the eight-year offers given to shortstops Colt Emerson ($95M) of Seattle and Cooper Pratt ($50 million) of Milwaukee.

In accordance with ESPN’s Buster Olney, groups are anticipated to be extra aggressive in locking up prospects long run, anticipating a possible work stoppage in 2027. The concept is that these contracts will probably be “grandfathered into the brand new system.” In consequence, extra rookies may quickly discover themselves with early-career extensions.

With this being the case, these three rookies may discover themselves receiving extensions:

Infielder Kevin McGonigle | Detroit Tigers

McGonigle, the second-best prospect within the large leagues behind Griffin (h/t: MLB.com), is off to a sizzling begin. In six video games, he’s batting .364 with a .985 OPS, two doubles, a triple and 5 RBI.

McGonigle, 21, is coming off a robust Arizona Fall League (.362 BA and 1.210 OPS) and a robust 2025, the place he performed on three ranges within the Tigers’ system. In 88 video games, the 21-year-old hit .305 with a .991 OPS and 19 residence runs.

A deal much like Emerson’s could also be a superb framework to make use of. However McGonigle now comes with big-league expertise, making him a bit of costlier. In accordance with ESPN’s Jeff Passan, McGonigle and the Tigers have “engaged” in extension talks.

Outfielder Chase DeLauter | Cleveland Guardians

DeLauter, 24, made an announcement in his first three video games as a big-league participant, hitting 4 residence runs. He’s one among three gamers to hit 4 residence runs in his first three regular-season video games.
