    “ASSAULT AGAINST TUNISIA”

    “If it is confirmed that this can be a drone strike, it will likely be an assault, an aggression in opposition to Tunisia and Tunisian sovereignty,” Francesca Albanese, the United Nations particular rapporteur for the Palestinian territories who lives in Tunis, informed reporters on the port.

    The Israeli army didn’t instantly reply to AFP’s request for remark.

    The incident comes as Gaza endures a war sparked by the Hamas assault on Israel in October 2023.

    The United Nations declared a state of famine final month in elements of Gaza, warning that 500,000 individuals face “catastrophic” situations.

    The International Sumud Flotilla – “sumud” that means steadfastness in Arabic – describes itself as an impartial group not linked to any authorities or political occasion.

    Its said intention is to achieve Gaza by mid-September to ship humanitarian help, after two earlier makes an attempt in June and July have been blocked by Israel.

    Amongst its high-profile members is Greta Thunberg, who addressed pro-Palestinian campaigners in Tunisia on Sunday.

    The Tunisian flotilla is because of depart for the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, after being delayed a number of instances by climate situations and different points together with the late arrival of boats from Barcelona.
