The 51-year-old Hussam Abu Safia was detained by the Israeli military from Gaza in December.

The director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital has been subjected to numerous types of intense torture and inhumane therapy in an Israeli navy jail, his lawyer advised Al Jazeera.

The 51-year-old Hussam Abu Safia was detained in Gaza by the Israeli military  in December and brought to Sde Teiman navy detention camp in Israel’s Negev Desert, earlier than being transferred to Ofer Jail, positioned close to Ramallah.

He was “arrested by power, handcuffed and compelled to take off his garments after being taken from the hospital to one of many military camps”, stated Samir al-Mana’ama, a lawyer with the Al Mezan Middle for Human Rights who visited him in Ofer Jail on Tuesday.

Al-Mana’ama stated that Abu Safia suffers from “an enlarged coronary heart muscle and from hypertension” and was crushed up and refused therapy for the guts situation.

Transferred to Ofter Jail on 9 January, he was held in solitary confinement for 25 days and interrogated nonstop by the Israeli military, Israeli intelligence and police, the lawyer added.

“Regardless of denying all the costs in opposition to him, he was crushed with an electrical stick by the Israeli military in order to extract a confession from him,” stated the lawyer.

There was “no authorized justification” for Abu Safia’s arrest, the lawyer stated, including that “any accusation wants proof and so long as there is no such thing as a proof, there is no such thing as a actual full accusation in opposition to Physician Hussam.”

An absence of medical care mixed with the appalling circumstances in “very chilly jail cells” had “severely affected” the physician’s well being, he stated, including that he was “going through a variety of sufferings in his confinement and detention”.

In a separate assertion issued by the lawyer, he stated that Abu Safia had been given no entry to authorized counsel throughout his 47 days in arbitrary detention.

Abu Safia, who had documented the merciless affect of Israel’s offensive on Kamal Adwan Hospital, was arrested after refusing a number of navy threats to depart the hospital throughout a devastating blockade on the northern Gaza Strip.

The physician was reportedly sighted again in December by two launched prisoners at Sde Teiman, a controversial facility identified for its excessive abuse of detainees.

    ‘Hundreds disappeared’

Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting from Amman in Jordan, stated the physician was considered one of tons of of medical staff taken from Gaza by Israeli forces to the infamous Sde Teiman detention camp and different Israeli navy prisons.

“No less than his household now is aware of the place he’s and that he’s alive, in contrast to doubtlessly hundreds of others who the UN stated have been forcibly disappeared from Gaza,” she stated.

The Prisoners’ Affairs Committee and the Prisoner’s Society issued a report citing the lawyer of a Palestinian detainee who stated he had been subjected to severe torture in Israeli detention.

In accordance with the report, the prisoner had been crushed by Israeli troopers whereas going from north to the south of Gaza, compelled to take off his garments and left for hours within the chilly with out meals or water.
