    ROME: Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto despatched a navy frigate to help a Gaza-bound flotilla on Wednesday (Sep 24), after organisers stated a number of of their boats had been focused by a number of drones off Greece.

    The International Sumud Flotilla stated greater than a dozen explosions had been heard across the flotilla because it sailed off Greece late on Tuesday, with harm brought on by “unidentified objects” dropped on deck.

    “To make sure help to the Italian residents on the ‘Flotilla’ … I spoke with the Prime Minister and authorised the speedy intervention of the Italian Navy’s multi-purpose frigate Fasan, which was crusing north of Crete as a part of Operation Protected Sea,” Crosetto stated in an announcement posted by the ministry on X.

    “The vessel is already en path to the world for potential rescue operations”, he stated.

    Crosetto expressed “the strongest condemnation” of the “assault” on the flotilla utilizing “drones by at the moment unidentified perpetrators”.

    Overseas Minister Antonio Tajani stated he had requested Israel to make sure the protection of “Italian residents, together with members of parliament and MEPs” among the many pro-Palestinian activists.

    The ministry had already knowledgeable Israel that “any operation entrusted to Israeli forces have to be carried out in compliance with worldwide regulation and the precept of absolute warning,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

    “Minister Tajani has requested the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv to collect info and to reiterate its earlier request to the Israeli authorities to ensure absolutely the safety of the personnel on board,” it added.
