Re: “Trump administration moves to shutter U.S. library agency” (April 1, A2):

Think about a spot the place everybody — no matter age, revenue, or background — can discover one thing they want. A spot that gives tales to youngsters, web entry to these with out and a quiet nook to get some work executed. That place is our public library, and it’s greater than only a constructing with books — it’s the beating coronary heart of our group.

The Trump administration is threatening library funding, proposing to get rid of the Institute of Museum and Library Providers, which helps libraries nationwide. Cuts to federal grants would cut back entry to books, expertise and group packages, disproportionately harming rural and low-income areas. Libraries want safety from political neglect and defunding.

    When neighbors collect, concepts ignite,

In rooms the place plans take highly effective flight.

An area to satisfy, to dream, to develop,

A spot the place seeds of change can sow.

The library stands, regular and free,

A present, a promise, for you and me.

Not simply cabinets, not simply partitions,

However the coronary heart of a city, the house of us all.

    Melissa Dingmon, Suquamish
