    A ruling by Romania’s central election authority to disqualify pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu from operating in Could’s presidential election rerun has prompted protests.

    In an in depth determination launched late on Sunday, the election authority cited the courtroom’s earlier ruling as grounds for its determination, stating that Georgescu failed to stick to poll rules.

    Georgescu has leaned into the rising controversy, posting in English on X: “A direct blow to the center of democracy worldwide! Europe is now a dictatorship, Romania is underneath tyranny!”

    Sunday’s ruling was handed by a margin of 10 to 4, with the election authority comprising supreme courtroom judges and representatives of political events.

    Nevertheless, the choice is just not last and will be contested within the constitutional courtroom.
