Re: “FBI ousts senior officials who were connected to investigations of Jan. 6” (Aug. 8, Nation & World):

President Donald Trump continues to aim to legitimize the violent assault of the U.S. Capitol  by his supporters. He has already issued pardons for the convicted criminals who attacked cops and destroyed property. He’s now taking revenge on authorities workers who have been doing their jobs to implement the legal guidelines of our nation.

That is precisely what authoritarian leaders do to take revenge and legitimize their illegitimate actions. Our president blames and punishes the harmless whereas rewarding the responsible and regulation breakers.

How lengthy will we proceed to tolerate the deterioration of our democratic values?

    Stuart Kaufman, Seattle
