    MINNEAPOLIS: US President Donald Trump walked again his conciliatory tone on Friday (Jan 30) after outrage over the killings of two Americans in Minneapolis by federal brokers, branding one among them, Alex Pretti, an “agitator”.

    Footage shared on-line this week reportedly confirmed intensive care nurse Pretti in a scuffle with federal brokers 11 days earlier than he was shot dead on Saturday by officers imposing an immigration crackdown.

    The White Home has scrambled to stem widespread outrage over Pretti’s killing, which got here weeks after Renee Good, one other US citizen and mom of three, was fatally shot by agents in the same city.

    Trump mentioned he wished to “de-escalate just a little bit”, and appointed a brand new level man in Minneapolis, border chief Tom Homan, who mentioned on Thursday that some federal brokers might be withdrawn from town after weeks of protests towards immigration raids.

    GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

    Backlash over the deaths of Pretti and Good, and the mass deployment of ICE brokers in Minneapolis, has landed in Congress, with the Senate edging nearer to a vote on Friday on a funding deal to avert a government shutdown over the disaster.

    Democrats have drawn a red line round funding for the Division of Homeland Safety (DHS), demanding or not it’s stripped out and renegotiated to impose new constraints on immigration enforcement companies.
