    WASHINGTON: The USA authorised the doable sale to Taiwan of fighter jet spare and restore elements for US$330 million, the Pentagon stated late on Thursday (Nov 13), marking the primary such potential transaction since President Donald Trump took workplace in January.

    “The proposed sale will enhance the recipient’s functionality to fulfill present and future threats by sustaining the operational readiness of the recipient’s fleet of F-16, C-130”, and different plane, the Pentagon stated in a press release.

    China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its personal territory and has not dominated out using power to take management of the island. Taiwan’s authorities strongly objects to Beijing’s sovereignty claims and says solely Taiwan’s folks can determine their future.

    Trump says Chinese language President Xi Jinping has instructed him he won’t invade Taiwan whereas the Republican chief is in workplace.

    The announcement of the doable arms sale comes after Trump and Xi met late final month in South Korea in an effort to secure a trade deal. Forward of the assembly, there was a worry in Taipei that there might have been some type of “promoting out” of Taiwan’s pursuits by Trump to Xi.
