    The 69-year-old is the primary cardinal from US to steer the world’s largest Christian Church.

    A brand new pope has been elected – the primary from the USA to steer the Roman Catholic Church.

    However the establishment is split between progressives and traditionalists, in a world polarised by battle and widening political division.
