    GENEVA: The United Nations rights chief expressed deep concern on Monday (Mar 3) a few “elementary shift in path” by the USA underneath President Donald Trump, warning that divisive rhetoric is getting used to deceive and polarise individuals.

    “Now we have loved bipartisan help from the US on human rights over many many years … I’m now deeply apprehensive by the elemental shift in path that’s happening domestically and internationally,” the UN Excessive Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, stated in a speech that didn’t point out Trump by title.

    “Insurance policies meant to guard individuals from discrimination at the moment are labelled as discriminatory … Divisive rhetoric is getting used to distort, deceive and polarise. That is producing worry and nervousness amongst many,” he added.

    Turk’s speech to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva – a physique which Trump disengaged from in February – are his strongest remarks up to now on the influence of the brand new US administration’s insurance policies.

    Since taking workplace on Jan 20, Trump has issued a sequence of government orders geared toward dismantling range, fairness and inclusion programmes throughout the federal authorities and the personal sector. USAID programmes were also paused for 90 days, whereas his administration critiques in the event that they align with its ‘America first’ coverage.
