    US prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione, Bondi says

    NEW YORK/WASHINGTON: US Lawyer Basic Pamela Bondi directed federal prosecutors to hunt the loss of life penalty for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s insurance coverage division, in New York final 12 months.

    In a press release, Mangione’s lawyer Karen Friedman Agnifilo referred to as the choice to hunt the loss of life penalty “barbaric.”

    “Whereas claiming to guard towards homicide, the federal authorities strikes to commit the pre-meditated, state-sponsored homicide of Luigi,” Friedman Agnifilo stated.

    Mangione, 26, has pleaded not responsible to New York state fees of homicide as an act of terrorism and weapons offenses. He may face life in jail with out parole if convicted in that case. New York doesn’t have the loss of life penalty for state fees.

    Mangione faces a parallel federal indictment in Manhattan federal courtroom over Thompson’s killing. He may face the loss of life penalty if convicted in that case. He has not but been requested to enter a plea to the federal fees.

    If Mangione is convicted within the federal case, the jury would decide in a separate part of the trial whether or not to advocate the loss of life penalty. Any such advice have to be unanimous, and the choose could be required to impose it.

    Thompson was shot useless on Dec 4 outdoors a Midtown Manhattan lodge, the place the corporate was gathering for an investor convention.

    “Luigi Mangione’s homicide of Brian Thompson – an harmless man and father of two younger youngsters – was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America,” Bondi stated in a press release.
