    Mohsen Langarneshin was convicted of aiding Mossad operations for 2 years, together with the killing of an IRGC colonel.

    Iran has executed a “senior spy” on fees of cooperating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence company, its judiciary says.

    Mohsen Langarneshin, who was hanged on Wednesday morning, supplied Mossad with in depth “logistical, technical and operational assist” for 2 years, beginning in 2020, the judiciary mentioned by way of its official information company, Mizan.

    One of many key accusations towards Langarneshin was his involvement within the May 2022 killing of an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) colonel, Sayyad Khodai, who was shot useless by two motorcyclists on his means residence in Tehran.     Reactions

    Nonetheless, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the top of the Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) monitor, mentioned Langarneshin was sentenced after an unfair trial and a confession was obtained by torture.

    “The Iranian authorities’ execution machine is accelerating every single day, taking the lives of extra folks,” he instructed the AFP information company, describing the executions as “extrajudicial killings”.

    The US-based Abdorrahman Boroumand Heart, which had campaigned over his case, mentioned Langarneshin had been convicted after his July 2023 arrest at a Revolutionary Courtroom presided over by choose Abolghasem Salavati, sanctioned by the US and EU and infamous for his handing out of loss of life sentences.

    “He denied all fees, stating that his confessions had been extracted below torture,” the group mentioned.

    The Iran-born British actor and activist Nazanin Boniadi wrote on X: “The bloodthirsty Islamic Republic has executed yet one more harmless.”

    Earlier executions

    Caught in a decades-long shadow warfare with Israel, Iran has executed quite a few people over their alleged hyperlinks to Mossad, notably these accused of sabotage and assassination efforts geared toward undermining its nuclear programme.

    In December 2023, three males and a girl were executed for his or her alleged hyperlinks to Mossad.

    Langarneshin’s execution comes amid renewed US-Iran nuclear talks, which Overseas Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israel of making an attempt to derail. A fourth spherical of Oman-mediated negotiations between Washington and Tehran is scheduled for Saturday in Rome, in line with Tehran.

    Araghchi described the final spherical of oblique talks, held on April 26 in Muscat, as “extraordinarily critical”, however he remained “extremely cautious” about their potential success.
