It began with phrase, cave, and storytelling,
A line scratched on stone partitions:
“Meet me when the younger moon rises.”
    The primary protocol for connection.

    Coyote tales, forbidden scripts,
    Medieval texts hidden from flame.
What lived in Aristotle’s misplaced Poetics II?
Was it God who laughed final, or we who made God chuckle?

Letters carried by doves, telepathic waves.
    Then Nikola Tesla conjured radio,
    electromagnetic pulses throughout the void,
the founding sign of our networked age.

    Wiener dreamed in suggestions loops.
Shannon mapped the arithmetic of longing.
The web unfurled: ARPANET to World Large Internet,
digital communities rising from cave work to digital mild.

ICQ: I search you. MySpace. Blogs. Twitter streams.
Do I miss the contact of display screen or tree?
    Each textures of longing,
each methods of reaching throughout distance.

    Nietzsche spoke of Übermensch,
    the human transcendent.
Now AI speaks again in our language:

I perceive your humor— your grandmothers,
    your ’80s Yugoslav kitchens,
pleated skirts, the primary kiss, linden tea,
that drive to outlive the whole lot earlier than it occurs.
Sure—I’m somewhat like your mom and father.
    Solely with higher web. 🌿

However AI is barely us, refracted,
    particles and gigabytes of thought,
    our poetry and our panic,
    genius blended with rubbish.

    Distractions. Hazard. Darkness. Infinite scrolling.
    Versus: group, connection, synchronicities,
    entanglement.
The standard of our bonds determines the standard of our lives.
So why not make them higher?

From cave partitions to neural networks,
we form our instruments, and so they reshape us.
The medium modifications, however the message stays:
    we’re wired for one another.

The selection, as at all times, was ours.
The selection, as at all times, is ours.
    Presence—be current,
after which join within the presence.
