SYDNEY: An Australian boy was in crucial situation after being bitten by a shark in Sydney, authorities stated on Monday (Jan 19), after heavy rain created preferrred circumstances for sharks to enter the town’s harbour.

The boy, believed to be 12 or 13, had been leaping off a 6m rock with associates late on Sunday afternoon at a seaside in Vaucluse, round 9km from the CBD and within the harbour, when he was attacked by the shark.

Current heavy rain had drained into the harbour, turning the water murky, police stated.

He was pulled from the water by associates and emergency providers with extreme accidents to each legs and stays in a crucial situation.

“He is in for the battle of his life now, and the actions of emergency providers yesterday gave him that likelihood,” New South Wales Police Superintendent Joseph McNulty informed reporters on Monday.

The assault follows days of heavy rain that crammed the harbour with recent water, creating preferrred circumstances for the bull shark suspected to be behind the assault – a species that thrives in brackish water.

“We consider the mixture of the brackish water, the recent water, the actions of the splashing could have made that good storm setting for that shark assault yesterday,” McNulty stated.

He praised the boy’s “gallant” younger associates for going to his help earlier than police arrived.

Officers pulled the unconscious youngster onto a police boat and gave him first help, making use of two tourniquets to stem the bleeding from the boy’s legs, he stated.

They tried to resuscitate the boy as they sped throughout the harbour to a wharf the place ambulance paramedics had been ready.
