    TEHRAN: Iranian lawmakers have proposed a plan to impose tolls and taxes on ships passing by way of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, native media reported on Thursday (Mar 19).

    Officers have stated delivery situations by way of the waterway is not going to return to these from earlier than the Center East battle started with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb 28. 

    “We in parliament are pursuing a plan underneath which nations can pay tolls and taxes to the Islamic Republic if the Strait of Hormuz is used as a safe route for transit, vitality and meals safety,” Tehran lawmaker Somayeh Rafiei was quoted as saying by the ISNA information company.

    “The safety of the strait can be established with energy, authority and grandeur by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and nations should pay a tax in return,” she stated.

    Visitors by way of the very important strait has been dropped at a near-standstill because the begin of the battle.

    Iranian forces have attacked multiple vessels, saying they didn’t heed “warnings” towards transiting the waterway.

    Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on Tuesday that maritime site visitors would “not return to its pre-war standing”.

    In latest days, Iran has allowed some vessels from nations it considers pleasant to move, whereas warning it might block ships from nations it says have joined the “aggression” towards it.

    Maritime intelligence agency Windward stated in an evaluation on Tuesday that at least five ships exited the strait through Iranian waters on Mar 15 and 16. 

    A message from Iran’s supreme chief Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei additionally stated “the lever of blocking the Strait of Hormuz should positively be used”.
