JERUSALEM: Rights group Amnesty Worldwide on Monday (Aug 18) accused Israel of enacting a “deliberate coverage” of hunger in Gaza, because the United Nations and support teams warn of famine within the Palestinian territory.
Israel, whereas closely limiting support allowed into the Gaza Strip, has repeatedly rejected claims of deliberate hunger within the 22-month-old battle.
In a report citing testimonies of displaced Palestinians and medical employees who handled malnourished youngsters, Amnesty mentioned that “Israel is finishing up a deliberate marketing campaign of hunger within the occupied Gaza Strip”.
The group accused Israel of “systematically destroying the well being, well-being and social material of Palestinian life”.
“It’s the meant consequence of plans and insurance policies that Israel has designed and carried out, over the previous 22 months, to intentionally inflict on Palestinians in Gaza circumstances of life calculated to result in their bodily destruction – which is an element and parcel of Israel’s ongoing genocide towards Palestinians in Gaza,” Amnesty mentioned.
The report relies on interviews carried out in latest weeks with 19 displaced Gazans sheltering in three makeshift camps in addition to two medical employees in two hospitals in Gaza Metropolis.
Contacted by AFP, the Israeli navy and international ministry didn’t instantly touch upon Amnesty’s findings.
