MADRID: A bus carrying British vacationers veered off a freeway down an embankment on Spain’s Atlantic island of La Gomera on Friday (Apr 10), killing one Briton and injuring 27 individuals, together with three youngsters, authorities mentioned.

Canary Islands emergency companies introduced the demise of a person, with a spokeswoman confirming to AFP that he was British.

4 of the injured had been in a severe situation, together with the 63-year-old driver who could be taken to hospital on the island of Tenerife, the emergency companies added.

An image shared on X confirmed the white bus, which was carrying 28 individuals together with the driving force, overturned on steep and rocky terrain beneath the highway’s hairpin bend.

The bus “luckily stopped shortly after coming off, as a result of in any other case it may have been far more severe”, the central authorities’s consultant on the island, Juan Luis Navarro, informed reporters.

A brake failure was the working speculation, and the driving force “tried to combat to keep away from coming off till he ultimately went down the slope”, Navarro mentioned.
