    Canadian International Minister Anita Anand and Governor Common Mary Simon visited Greenland on Friday and attended the opening of Canada‘s consulate.

    Anand met with Denmark’s International Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Greenland‘s International Minister Vivian Motzfeldt in Nuuk to debate collaboration on Arctic safety.

    Canada introduced its plans in December when Anand mentioned the nation would open consulates in Greenland and Anchorage, Alaska, as a part of efforts to strengthen its presence within the Arctic.

    Prime Minister Mark Carney has additionally pledged to spice up Canada‘s navy and safety presence within the Arctic.

    France, whose international minister is because of go to within the subsequent few weeks, is the primary nation from the European Union to open a consulate common in Greenland. Paris has simply 9 residents residing on the island.

    “France reiterates its dedication to respecting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark,” the French International Ministry mentioned in an announcement on Friday.
