As a Seattle resident, I help not solely the pro-democracy protests taking place throughout the nation but additionally right here in Washington. At a time when primary democratic rules like the best to vote and honest elections are being challenged, we should stay dedicated to defending them.

Washington continues to be a pacesetter in voter entry, with vote-by-mail and computerized registration. However threats to democracy elsewhere, together with voter suppression and disinformation, impression us all. Democracy is barely as sturdy because the folks keen to face up for it.

I applaud the work being achieved right here in Washington to advertise honest elections, correct info and accountability. Let’s proceed to demand that democratic establishments stay sturdy, inclusive and clear.

Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It will depend on us.

    Bert Greenwood, Seattle
