SEOUL: There was a hearth and an explosion on a vessel operated by South Korean shipper within the Strait of Hormuz on Monday (Might 4), the overseas ministry in Seoul mentioned.
The federal government was checking intelligence that the vessel, HMM Namu, might have been attacked, Yonhap Information reported citing authorities officers.
There have been no casualties reported and authorities had been investigating what prompted the blaze that, HMM mentioned, broke out within the engine room of the Panama-flagged cargo ship.
Twenty-four crew members, together with six Korean nationals, had been on board, the corporate informed Reuters.
The US army mentioned two US Navy guided-missile destroyers had entered the Gulf to break an Iranian blockade and that two US service provider ships had transited the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran mentioned it had prevented a US warship from getting into the Gulf.
“Our authorities will talk carefully with related nations concerning this matter and take crucial measures to make sure the protection of our vessels and crew members contained in the Strait of Hormuz,” South Korea’s overseas ministry mentioned in an announcement.
Seoul has mentioned 26 South Korean-flagged vessels had been stranded there.
