The Related Press article “A Palestinian student at Columbia is freed after his arrest at a citizenship interview” (April 30, Nation) brings additional gentle to the U.S. authorities’s assault on free speech.

Mohsen Mahdawi is focused as a result of he organized campus protests at Columbia College and cofounded the college’s Palestinian Scholar Union with Mahmoud Khalil. Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts College pupil from Turkey, co-wrote an op-ed within the pupil newspaper. These and others protesting in opposition to the genocide of Gaza are declared a menace to nationwide safety, are arrested and threatened with deportation. Because the article notes, the choose who ordered the discharge of Mahdawi mentioned such arrests have been harking back to the McCarthy period of the Nineteen Fifties.

We should stand as much as the tyranny of the neo-fascist Trump regime.
