    CJ McCollum took over for Trae Young because the Atlanta Hawks’ place to begin guard this season. In Monday’s Sport 2, he took over for Younger as Madison Sq. Backyard’s No. 1 villain.

    The 34-year-old guard scored 32 factors within the Hawks’ 107-106 street win over the New York Knicks, night their first-round sequence at one sport every. McCollum embraced his villain position, egging on the hostile crowd and moving into it with New York’s Jose Alvarado — then hitting the go-ahead jumper within the remaining seconds.

    In a sequence the place his teammates have struggled to attain for stretches, the veteran McCollum has been carrying Atlanta’s offense. He subbed in with two minutes left within the first quarter with the Hawks trailing by double digits, then scored seven factors, blocked a shot and assisted on a three-pointer because the Hawks erased the deficit.

    On the finish of the second quarter, McCollum poured in 9 factors within the final 4 minutes. Then, in crunch time, McCollum hit three baskets within the final 2:08 to drag off the upset.
