    BEIRUT: Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem on Monday (Apr 3) urged Lebanon to cancel a deliberate assembly with Israel in Washington the next day, reiterating his group’s rejection of direct negotiations with its foe.

    “We reject negotiations with the usurping Israeli entity … We name for a historic and heroic stance by cancelling this negotiating assembly,” Qassem, whose Iran-backed group has been at warfare with Israel since March 2, mentioned in a televised tackle.

    The Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to america are scheduled to meet in Washington on Tuesday to debate holding direct negotiations between the 2 nations.

    Lebanese authorities have pressured that Beirut first needs to safe a ceasefire within the Israel-Hezbollah warfare, however Israel has dismissed that prospect, saying it prefers as a substitute to give attention to formal peace talks with Lebanon itself, with which it has technically been at warfare for many years. 

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned Saturday that “we would like the dismantling of Hezbollah’s weapons, and we would like an actual peace settlement that can final for generations”.

    Qassem, nonetheless, mentioned “these negotiations are futile and require a Lebanese settlement and consensus”.

    Tons of of Hezbollah supporters protested on Friday and Saturday towards the deliberate talks, accusing Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam of being a “zionist”.
