Re: “Congress told two federal officers fired shots when Pretti was killed” (Jan. 28, A1):

President Donald Trump and prime officers in his administration who promote hatred and bigotry have hijacked what it means to be a patriot.

What makes a patriot? Somebody who devoted their life’s work to take care of the well being of our veterans who served our nation. Somebody who risked their life to watch and file rogue federal brokers intimidating and harassing their fellow residents of their neighborhood. Somebody who tried to intervene and shield an harmless one that was being brutally assaulted by federal brokers. Somebody who made the last word sacrifice standing up for democracy and the core values of our nation.

    Alex Pretti was a patriot.

    Mark Sisk, Seattle
